Diesel and petrol fumes are the worst enemies of hay fever sufferers. Stay away from busy highways as studies show pollen binds itself to cars’ exhaust residue and the heavy diesel and petrol exhaust particles carry the pollen deep inside airways, worsening hay fever symptoms. If you suffer from hay fever or other allergies, particularly when the weather changes and pollen is released from plants, avoid heavily congested traffic areas and regularly but gently blow your nose to help eradicate the pollen grains and diesel/petrol residue from your airways. Also apply a little petroleum jelly to the lower nostrils to stop pollen entering the nose.
