When a couple has been together for a while and are fairly used to each other, they may sometimes edge into a comfort zone and not give as much care and attention as they did before when the relationship was new. In addition, holidays like Valentines Day may be somewhat misleading as they may make people think that they should be romantic only on special occasions.

It’s important that a couple finds ways to connect, spend time together and also have fun regularly to keep the relationship fresh and exciting. Don’t only rely on special occasions to do this. This is, however, not to discount the day celebrated by lovers worldwide as it can serve as a very special time for a couple as well. Here are a few ideas that can help bring the sparkle back to your love life.

Regular dates. Dates are a wonderful and romantic way of spending uninterrupted time together over an enjoyable meal. Set apart a special day to eat out as a couple, whether weekly or monthly. To make it more exciting, the two of you could take turns to plan the dates.

Find a shared hobby. A shared hobby will give you something to do together and create time where you can enjoy each other’s company while sharing a passion. It will also give you time to learn to work together and have a better understanding of each other. Even though you both have hobbies you enjoy, it’s important to choose one that you will both enjoy instead of going with a hobby from one of you. It will be difficult for you to bond in a hobby that one of you does not enjoy. You may also have to try several hobbies before finding a mutually enjoyable one.

Volunteer. Working alongside each other for a common cause is another great way to rediscover each other, connect and strengthen your bond as a couple, and grow together. By volunteering, a couple will see the truly compassionate side of each other while giving back to the community that they live in, and also making a difference.

Share your faith. A study published by The Journal of Marriage and Family shows that couples who share religious practices tend to be happier than those who don’t. Attending religious services and praying together can go a long way in building happier and healthier relationships. Shared faith also offers a good support system for a couple, and enables them to work toward a positive relationship.

Travel together. Going on a trip together has potential to be of great fun for a couple. Agree on a destination and plan a means of transport and activities you can do together. Travel doesn’t have to cost you an arm and leg as you can pull your resources together, explore your local surroundings, take advantage of special offers or even do a road trip for a day.  Whether you decide to drive to a place out of town or take a bus to somewhere new, travelling together once in a while will give you something to look forward to and is also a refreshing change from the usual.
