After giving birth it can be tempting to let yourself go, and fully attend to the baby. Studies have shown that to have a healthy baby, mom must be healthy too. Here are some things to look out for.

Postpartum pain

While pain after birth may be normal. It is important to know it should lessen with time. It may be uncomfortable but shouldn’t be unbearable. If your in much pain see your doctor! They will make sure your healing properly and doing well.

Postpartum depression

It’s alright if your feeling overwhelmed by having a baby. It doesn’t make you a bad mom if the situation makes you sad or anxious. The first 6 weeks it can just be the baby blues but if it persists then it may be postpartum depression. With the raging hormones and body changes 10- 20 percent of women get postpartum depression. Talk to someone and get the help you need.

Healthy eating

There is so much going on and so much to do, it is easy to forget breakfast and have crisps for lunch. Eating healthy is important for you and the baby. Poor diet means there isn’t enough milk for the baby and your lacking nutrients. Then you get cranky because your body is complaining. Notice how when your in a bad mood so is the baby. Happy mom, happy baby.

Exercise

After the baby, its easy to hate this word. your thinking just caring this baby is a work out enough, plus your tired all the time. On the contrary exercise will give you the strength that you need to keep active and fight disease. start small and even work out with your baby for bonding time. do things like, yoga, Pilates, sit ups and push ups. when your baby gets older go for walks, hiking, bike riding and swimming. eventually they will become quality family time.
