President Uhuru Kenyatta has reshuffled the cabinet, nominating new faces for the consideration by the national assembly and swapping dockets among the existing ones. He made the announcement from State House in Mombasa on January 14th 2020. He nominated new cabinet secretaries and chief administrative secretaries to enhance service delivery and efficiency.

Mutahi Kagwe has been nominated as Cabinet Secretary for Health. Uhuru also said they had assigned duties of secretaries and principle secretaries.

“(I nominate) Ambassador Rachael Omamo as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Sicily Kariuki as the Cabinet Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Honourable Peter Munya as Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Honourable Ambassador Ukur Yatani as the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Planning and Mr Joe Okudo as the principal secretary of Sports.” Uhuru said.

The Head of State appointed Wavinya Ndeti the Chief Administrative Secretary for Transport and Nadia Ahmed as Chief Administrative Secretary of ICT, innovation and youth affairs.

Appointment of youth into office

He emphasized that some of the people appointed as Chief Administrative Secretaries are young Kenyans below the age of thirty.

“I would want Kenyans to note that 7 of these appointments to the positions of chief administrative secretaries are young Kenyans. For instance, some are below the age of 30.” He emphasized.

In addition, Uhuru said he hopes the 7 young chief administrators will work hand in hand with the senior leaders in government. This will prepare them for bigger positions in future.

“I hope they work and understudy experienced colleagues in government with the aim of readying themselves to assume senior leadership positions in the near future.” said Uhuru.

Furthermore, Uhuru wants the young leaders to be role models for younger generations. Uhuru encouraged them to preach patriotism and integrity in public service.

In conclusion, he ended his speech by congratulating the new appointees. The president said he was looking forward to working with them after he appointed the new cabinet secretaries.
