Are you guilty of taking to your phone or laptop before bedtime to send text messages, update your Facebook page or even answer to emails? A study by New York’s Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute confirms that using a mobile phone, tablet or laptop before going to bed can lead to sleep troubles. Researchers found two or more hours of exposure to backlit devises can disrupt your body’s melatonin cycle (or body clock), which can in turn lead to trouble sleeping at night. Try turning off all devices several hours before going to sleep or, if this is not possible, dim the brightness on your devices to minimise the effects.
