The grand finale award ceremony for the annual Digital Media Awards took place early this month on August 6, 2021, with Kenyans experiencing the first ever drive-in hybrid awards ceremony at The Waterfront Mall in Karen.

The annual awards recognises brands and agencies in Kenya who have delivered unique and original projects in the past year while ensuring accountability and maintenance of high standards in the digital, marketing and technology space.

Curated by Go Gaga Experiential, the event was the culmination of a selection process that  saw over 150 brands, technology gurus and agencies showcase the best in digital media for the 'The Oscar’s of Africa'. This was a 50 percent  increase compared to the previous year with eight categories and 27 sub-categories  for work done during the 2020 Covid-19 period.

The awards took a different approach this year running from the 2nd – 6th August 2021, with the first four days set aside for agencies to engage with brands by showcasing their prowess. They had a one-on-one opportunity to highlight their creativity and technological advancement through live demos, case studies and presentations to brands. The engagement attracted numerous local and multinational brands across various sectors.

A gentleman’s experience at Catherine Kariuki’s StepMum Brunch
The StepMum Brunch went down in style at the Zen Garden based in Lower Kabete. It was an unforgettable day for me and contrary to my fears, I was relaxed and cool and even as much as my fashion sense ‘belongs to the streets’, I fit in to the theme of the event.

"I was lucky to oversee the judging together with an experienced and opinionated jury. The process was seamless; well organized and we had great debates on the work. Indeed, a very competitive year, but confident that the work that won is among the best our industry offers,” commented key judge Max Ngari  who is the Executive Creative Director at Dentsu Kenya.

John Chirchir, the Under Secretary at the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth gave the keynote speech as the representative of CS Joseph Mucheru,, appreciating the work being done by Go Gaga Experiential in bringing together the digital and technology fields and congratulated all the nominees and winners of the 4th Edition of Digital Media Awards.
