Nine girls who perished at the Moi Girls School fire tragedy two weeks ago were on Thursday, given glowing tributes during a special memorial service held at the school’s grounds.

Portraits of the nine girls, Natalie Asiko(15), Hannah Jeyisso Timado (14), Whitney Kerubo (14), Hawa Aziz, Esther Neema Onyari (14), Marcia Eunice Atieno (15), Nancy Wamuthere (14), Mary Jengo (16) and Alakiir Malong Young (16) were erected under a special tent at the school grounds as teachers, religious leaders, family and friends eulogised them.

The girls were described them as heroines, rising stars kind and humble. Some of the girls died saving their counterparts. Speaking at the service while fighting back tears, the Deputy President’s wife Rachel Ruto condoled with the family, terming the as unfortunate and difficult.

The fire, which broke out two weeks ago, left Kenyans in shock as it emerged that students could have masterminded it.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and a host of politicians among other state officials also attended the service.
