Meditation can help you learn faster and improve memory, according to a study from Harvard Medical School in the US. Using brain scans, researchers found participants who completed an eight-week course of mindfulness meditation (meditating with full awareness of the present) were better able to regulate crucial brain waves called alpha rhythms, which regulate the flow of sensory information and screen out distractions, compared to a group that did no meditation. They found meditators became much more skilled at focussing attention quickly and blocking the volume of noisy environments.
