Research shows that meditation for just 20 minutes a day over five days can reduce anxiety and levels of the stress hormone cortisol in the body. Find a quiet place in your house, which you can use as your meditation area. You can do it first thing in the morning on waking up, or last thing before retiring to bed. Sit comfortably on a mat or on the carpet and close your eyes while you bring beautiful thoughts to your mind and at the same time breathing in deeply through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. With a bit of practice you will be able to reach a state of higher consciousness, which is the essence of meditation.
