Day two of the World Under-20 Championships saw Alocias Kipngetich and Peter Kithome qualify for the 400 m men’s hurdles semifinals.

Kipngetich and Kithome finished fourth and second respectively in the heats that took place Thursday morning. Kithome clocked a time of 51.31 in his heat while Kipngetich clocked a new personal best time of 51.41.

Kenya disqualified in World U-20 mixed relay
The four, Sylvia Chelagat,Kennedy Kimeu, Elkana Kiprotich, and Loice Moraa managed a second finish behind Nigeria who qualified for the finals with a record time of 3:21.66 in heat two.

Elsewhere, Kenyan duo of Noah Kibet and Emmanuel Wanyonyi qualified for the 800 m semifinal after winning their respective heats. Wanyonyi clocked a time of 1:46.51, while Kibet crossed the finish line in 1:46.70. they will be staged on Saturday.

"You do not take chances at some of these championship events. I had agreed with Noah that we run from the front. That is what we shall do all through to the finals,”said Wanyonyi after the win.

However,it was a heartbreaking moment for Kenya, as Sheila Chepkosgei and Brenda Chebet  failed to qualify for the women's 800m semi-final. Chepkosgei won her heat but was later disqualified for lane infringement.
