Tanzanian singer and songwriter Zuhura Othman Soud, popularly known as Zuchu, has announced that she is expecting her first child. The Bongo Flava star shared the joyful news on her Instagram account, posting a series of maternity photos .
From Zanzibar to stardom
Born on 22 November 1993 in Zanzibar, Tanzania, Zuchu grew up in a family with deep musical roots. She is the daughter of celebrated taarab singer Khadija Kopa, whose influence sparked her passion for music from an early age.
She rose to fame in 2020 after signing with WCB Wasafi, the record label founded by Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz. Her debut single, “Wana,” introduced her unique sound, and she quickly became one of East Africa’s biggest female artists.
Since then, Zuchu has released several hit songs, including “Sukari,” “Cheche,” “Kwikwi,” and “Nobody.” She has also broken records, becoming the first female artist in East Africa to surpass one million YouTube subscribers. Her music blends traditional taarab influences with contemporary Bongo Flava and Afro-pop, earning her a loyal fan base across the region.
A new chapter begins
Zuchu’s pregnancy comes just over a year after she married Diamond Platnumz. The couple’s relationship attracted widespread public attention for several years before they tied the knot in 2025.
Earlier this year, rumours about a possible pregnancy circulated on social media, but neither Zuchu nor Diamond publicly addressed the speculation. Her latest Instagram post has now confirmed the happy news.
As she embarks on motherhood, Zuchu continues to balance a successful music career with this exciting new chapter in her personal life.
