A private family matter involving activist and politician Morara Kebaso has spilled onto social media after he addressed growing speculation about his family and his relationship with Pauline Morara.
In a statement shared online, Morara said he had previously chosen not to discuss his family publicly but felt compelled to respond after what he described as misinformation circulating on social media.
He acknowledged Mercy Makini as the mother of his three children and asked the public to accord her the respect and honour she deserves.
“Every home and family has its own way of doing things. Your values are not our values. Your choices are not our choices,” Morara wrote.
He also said his family had given him their “permission and blessing” to continue serving the nation, asking the public to allow him to remain focused on his leadership ambitions.
On Pauline Morara, however, Morara did not publicly define the nature of their relationship.
“As for Pauline, I think she is doing a great job. 100% support,” he wrote.
His statement prompted a response from Mercy, who accused him of bringing a matter she had deliberately kept private into the public domain.
“Excuse me Morara Kebaso. I walked away privately, I thought we would keep it private!” Mercy wrote.
According to Mercy, she had chosen to remain silent for the past six months out of respect for everyone involved. She said Morara’s decision to address the matter publicly had forced her to respond.
“It’s quite unfortunate that you’ve decided to play the victim. Allow me to respond!” she added.
Mercy also questioned Morara’s comments about their children, alleging that he had not been involved in knowing what they had been eating over the past six months.
“Where do you get the moral authority to mention kids that you have no idea what they’ve been eating for the last 6 months?” she wrote.
She further alleged that she had been disrespected privately, saying she had expected the matter to remain private.
The exchange has since drawn public attention, particularly because of Morara’s growing profile as a public figure and the scrutiny surrounding his personal life.
While Morara has confirmed that Mercy is the mother of his three children, neither statement provides enough information to independently establish the full circumstances surrounding their relationship or the nature of Morara’s relationship with Pauline.
For now, the public conversation has moved beyond speculation about Pauline and into a broader dispute involving privacy, family and the challenges public figures face when private relationships become subjects of public scrutiny.
