A tight-knit community in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, is reeling in profound shock and grief following a devastating incident on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities confirmed that a 42-year-old father allegedly threw his two young children from a municipal parking garage before jumping to his own death in an apparent murder-suicide.
According to local police and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office, the victims have been identified as Patrick Lynch and his two children, 8-year-old James and 6-year-old Caroline.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene around 4:15 p.m. on November 3 following reports of bodies found on the street. Despite immediate, life-saving measures performed by first responders, all three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
Community Impact
Law enforcement officials stated that the tragedy is being treated as a criminal investigation rather than an accident. Mt. Lebanon Police Chief Jason Haberman addressed the immense emotional weight of the event during a press briefing, noting the deep impact the tragedy has left on the local area.
“Everyone in the Mt. Lebanon community will know someone involved in this incident,” Haberman said, expressing heartfelt condolences to the family and friends affected.
In response to the tragedy, the Mt. Lebanon School District announced the closure of Markham and Washington Elementary Schools, offering excused absences and grief counseling resources for students across the district. Local community members have since gathered to establish a makeshift memorial to honor young James and Caroline.
As police continue their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event, authorities have not yet released details regarding a potential motive.
