Couple dies after their car plunged in Juja Dam
A couple died on Tuesday night after their Nissan X-trail plunged into a dam in Juja, Kiambu County. Locals reported hearing screams at around 7:30 pm before a woman was spotted trying to swim to the banks of the dam. Unfortunately, her efforts were unsuccessful and she drowned.
The two were said to be making merry before their day turned tragic. According to witness statements the crime scene was littered with alcoholic bottles, a tell-tale sign that the area is a popular enjoyment spot.
It is alleged that the two were under the influence and hence had no control over the car’s plunging. Residents of the area claim that the dam is a popular drinking spot and that this was not the first incident.
The Murera Ward MCA Ngatha Wabiri has since urged the County Government to fence off the dam among other dams in the Juja area of Kiambu County.
“This is not the first time people are dying in this dam, we need to do something. We will make the county assembly set aside funds to fence these dams,” Wabiri told the media.
The bodies of the victims were retrieved and taken to the General Kago morgue in Thika.
