According to a tweet by Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company(NCWSC) this morning, water supply will be cut off in parts of Nairobi from Thursday at 6 am, to Friday at 6 pm. This follows the shut down of Ng’ethu Water Treatment plant which supplies 85% water to Nairobi.

The shut down is meant to allow for maintenance at the Mwangu water intake which is along Chania river.

” This will facilitate major repair and maintenance works at Mwagu water intake along Chania river from where we abstract raw water to the water treatment works in preparation of the coming short rains”  NCWSC managing Director Nahason Muguna said.

Some of the areas to be affected include Nairobi Central District, University of Nairobi, Coca Cola Factory, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, EPZ- Athi River, South B and South C.

The whole of Industrial Area, Mlango Kubwa, Kariobangi South, BuruBuru, Dandora, Fedha, Donholm and Huruma will also be affected.

It is not the first time the company is shutting down the plant. In July, major works were undertaken after the heavy rains had damaged the plant.

“While every effort is being made to restore the supply of water as soon as possible, we urge all residents in the affected areas to use water sparingly,” said Muguna.
