Kibaki who died at age 90, will be remembered for playing a critical role during Moi’s tenure in reviving the economy of the country when he served as the minister for finance.

He will also be remembered for his great contribution to education by making primary education mandatory and free. It is during his tenure that the new constitution was voted in and effected. However, his leadership will still be stained by the jarring effects of the post-election violence that ensued in 2007/8 because of his reelection as president.
