The tree tomato fruit is also known as tamarillo fruit. It is oval in shape and has an outer covering that is not edible but the fruit inside is delicious. It is a sub-tropical plant that grows best in warm, moist environment and comes in three varieties – red, amber and gold.

Tree tomato is a healthy fruit to add to your diet. It is fat and cholesterol free and a good source of fibre. It is a rich source of vitamins A and C and an excellent source of calcium, iron and potassium. Tree tomato also contains phosphorus and magnesium.

As well as eating the tree tomato like any other fruit after peeling, it is a versatile and can be used in many different ways.
