If you’re a fan of comedy, fantasy and sci-fi, then you definitely have to watch this film. Grab those popcorns and get comfortable on the couch because things are about to get a magical twist.

The film is based on the 1973 novel by the same name by John Bellairs. It is a family friendly film with a blend of humour and horror. The magical adventure tells the tale of a young orphaned boy, Lewis (Owen Vaccaro), who is sent to live with his uncle, Jonathan (John Black), in a creepy old house, which has a mysterious ticking clock. He soon enters a world of magic and sorcery.

Jonathan is a well-intentioned warlock while his neighbour and good friend; Florence Zimmerman (Cate Blanchett), used to be a powerful good witch. The house once belonged to a couple, who, before dying, constructed a magical clock and hid it within the walls of the house. The clock was to tick eternally to pull the world into a magical alignment that would permit Isaac to cause the end of the world.

When Lewis, wanting only to befriend and impress his popular classmate, Tarby Corrigan (Sunny Suljic), attempts to raise a dead person in the local cemetery on Halloween, he accidentally releases the evil warlock and previous owner of the house, Isaac Izard, from his tomb.

Things quickly go awry as Izard moves to recover the key and set the clock in motion to end the world. Now, Lewis, Jonathan, and Mrs. Zimmerman must summon all their courage to defeat the evil sorcerer.

Released in September this year, this is a ridiculously wonderful film and the effects and quality are just amazing.
