Three people have been confirmed dead after a multi-storey building that was under construction in Kirigiti, Kiambu County collapsed in the early hours of Monday Morning. The building fell on nearby houses killing a woman and two children. However, it’s not yet clear whether the deceased were related.

Kiambu County governor Kimani Wamatangi was among those who arrived at the site and was helping coordinate the search and rescue efforts.

In a post on his social media, the governor said that several people were still trapped under the debris and that a multi-agency rescue team comprising the Kiambu County Fire & Disaster Management Department, Kenya Police, Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Red Cross and volunteers was helping search for those who were still trapped.

At the time of publishing this article, six people had been rescued and taken to the Kiambu Level Five hospital where there are receiving treatment.
