8 times Jacky Vike shut the red carpet down

  • PublishedAugust 14, 2019

The red carpet is where all glamour should come to live and camp, in the short time that it lasts. It is that time when all the celebrity stylists should come out out to play, and the A-list stars allow us normal mortals to take a glimpse into their fashion wildest dreams. Most Kenyan celebrities can’t really be bothered what they wear to the hallowed grounds of the red carpet. Jacky Vike is not one of them, because this girl never comes to play.

Known for her character Awinja in the comedy series Papa Shirandula, Jacky plays the role of a clueless house girl, but on the red carpet, she is a fashion icon. Her style is bold and trendsetting. She brings down walls of what people perceive as fashion and is not afraid to venture into the uncharted waters of Kenyan fashion. Her style is a mix of contemporary and her haute couture pieces go straight from the KALASHA Awards red carpet to the Oscars red carpet. Now before we wax lyrical any further, here are 10 red carpet looks that made us realise a fashion goddess lives amongst us. And, of course, shout out to Yvonne Afrostreet, who Jacky credits for most of her red carpet looks.

Yellow stunner

This little yellow caped number with gold details Jacky wore at the Lusala Film Premier turned heads and broke a few necks. No look came close to this that night.

Hot pink

It was supposed to be the Huawei Y9 Public launch, but this lass came and stole the show with the hot pick velvet dress straight from a fashion fairy tale.

The blues…

Off-shoulder, long train, blue shoes, lace detail…too much? There is no such thing as too much in Jacky’s fashion world. She carried this blue jumpsuit with so much grace, just as she should.

Orange is the new black?

Trust Jacky to pull off all the bold colours other girls would cringe at so effortlessly. And that tiny bag made the look so wholesome!

It’s yellow, again

Whoever said black girls look best in yellow clearly had Jacky in mind because, look what she did with this yellow shift dress with African undertones.

Sequin queen

This is how colour purple should be worn. Her short hairdo paired with this dress is a match made in fashion heaven.

Yellow, for the last time

Who else would bring this street style to the red carpet and own it, if not Jacky Vike?

Teal goddess

Lord knows how hard it is to pull off a ballgown/ A-line gown that isn’t impalpable. She wore this teal bustier ballgown and put the red carpet on lockdown! And that hairstyle? You fav would never…!
