“We feel that students should not be sent home for such things, and the Ministry of Education should intervene and help us,” a parent who sort anonymity said. This has put an extra burden on parents who feel that the fee is too high leaving some of the students stranded at home a week later.

Illegal

This raises scrutiny on the use of tuition fee in such institutions as according to Rift Valley Regional Education coordinator Mary Gaturu, the government allocates Sh22,244 to every student enrolled in public schools. Parents of those admitted in boarding schools will only top up a little fee to cater for accommodation and meals.

Parents of the institution are thus seeking government intervention to sort out this illegal fees meant to enrich a few individuals in the school.
