Nairobi Motorists will from  Monday next week pay Sh200 parking fee which is a reduction from the previous Sh300.

This comes after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko issued a directive in line with his manifesto to reduce parking charges to ease the burden on motorists.

Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCA) had passed a by-law for the lower parking fees in November 2018 which Governor Sonko signed in December.

“I know that this (reducing the fees) will increase congestion in the city centre, but again we cannot punish Nairobi residents because the projects like BRT and construction of bus termini outside the CBD are still ongoing,” the Governor said in November last year.

The new parking fee will however be reviewed once the proposed mass transport reforms are implemented.
