Rebecca Cheptegei’s Main Murder Suspect Confirmed Dead
The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret has confirmed the passing away of Rebecca Cheptegei’s ex-boyfriend Dickson Ndiema, who died on Monday night at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
His death comes a few days after the passing on of Cheptegei who had been receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Ndiema had attacked and doused Cheptegei with petrol at her Trans Nzoia home before setting her on fire which left her with 80 percent burns whereas he sustained 30 percent burn injuries.
The deceased 33 year old athlete was also a member of the Uganda People Defense Force (UPDF) and therefore shall be given a military send off on Saturday with full military honours.
With instructions from her father, Mzee John Cheptegei, Rebecca shall be laid to rest at Bukwo, located in the eastern part of Uganda. The session shall see a collaboration between Kenya and Uganda to ensure smooth and successful operations .
A postmortem on the body of Cheptegei is expected to be done on Wednesday at the hospital to determine the main cause of her death.
“The hospital asked us to have the postmortem done and we accepted because it will help us to know what led to her death and also it will be part of closure for us as we mourn her death,” said Mzee Cheptegei.
After the postmortem, Cheptegei’s body will be removed from the morgue on Thursday morning and handed to the family and UPDF. It will later on be escorted to her home in Endebes, Trans Nzoia where it will stay for a night vigil with residents paying their last tributes.
