Are You Qualified? Why You Might Be Disqualified from the 12,520 IEBC Jobs
  • PublishedFebruary 26, 2026

While the announcement of 12,520 new jobs is a relief to many unemployed Kenyans, the IEBC has set very strict neutrality and integrity standards. Failing to meet even one of these could see your application rejected instantly. Here is what you need to know before you apply.

Five-year political rule

This is the most common reason for disqualification. The IEBC is a neutral body and requires its staff to be impartial. According to the notice, applicants must not have held office or stood for election as a political candidate or party agent in the last five years. If your name is on record as a campaigner or party official from the 2022 elections, you are ineligible.

Age and citizenship requirements

While many government jobs target youth, the IEBC has specific age floors for different roles:

  • Voter registration clerks: Must be 19 years and above.

  • Voter registration assistants (VRA): Must be at least 21 years old.

  • All applicants must be Kenyan citizens and registered voters.

Education and skill gaps

Don’t ignore the added advantage section. While a KCSE C- (minus) is the minimum for clerks, those with a Diploma in ICT, Statistics, or Education will be prioritised. For the 290 ICT clerk positions, you must demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues under high pressure.

Oath of secrecy

If you are successful, you aren’t just getting a job; you are entering a legal contract with the state. All hired staff will be required to undergo rigorous training and take a formal oath of secrecy. Any history of integrity issues or lack of confidentiality will be grounds for immediate dismissal.

Remember that all applications must be in by 4th March, 2026. The system will not consider late entries.
