Kenyan Transport Industry Mourns Death of Easy Coach Founder Azym Dossa
  • PublishedFebruary 27, 2026

The Kenyan business community is in mourning following the death of Azym Dossa, the visionary founder and long-serving Managing Director of Easy Coach Limited. The company officially announced his passing on Thursday, February 26, 2026, describing it as a great loss to the nation’s transport sector.

Dossa, who was 77, passed away following a short illness. His death comes just over a year after he stepped down from active management in January 2025, citing health challenges and advanced age.

Legacy of reliability

Founded in 2003, Easy Coach began with just seven buses plying a single route between Nairobi and Kisumu. Under Dossa’s meticulous leadership, the company revolutionised long-distance travel in Kenya by introducing:

  • Scheduled departures

  • Safety first emphasis

  • Customer-centric innovation

Today, the firm boasts a fleet of over 100 buses serving more than 35 destinations across Kenya and the wider East African region.

From Akamba to an empire

Before venturing out on his own in his 50s, Dossa served as the Chief Financial Officer at the now-defunct Akamba Public Road Services. He used his decades of experience to build Easy Coach into a household name, often being cited as a prime example of ethical entrepreneurship.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dossa was lauded for his people-first approach; while many firms laid off workers, he ensured staff remained on the payroll through advance payments and leave encashment, despite a massive dip in revenue.

Final send-off

In a statement, the family confirmed that the final funeral rites will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

  • Service to begin at 9:15 AM at the Aga Khan Cultural and Religious Centre, 5th Parklands Avenue.

  • The cortège will proceed to the Ismaili Cemetery at 10 AM for the burial.

Dossa is survived by his wife, Dilshad, his sons Tariq and Khaled, and his grandchildren.
