Teen Activists Call for a Ban on School Uniforms in Adult Content

A growing movement led by British high school students is calling on lawmakers and the adult entertainment industry to ban the use of school uniforms in pornography, arguing that the pervasive “sexy schoolgirl” trope directly fuels street harassment and the sexualization of young girls in real life.

As reported by the New York Post, teenage campaigners, including students from the Little Feminist Bookclub at the Cooper School in Oxfordshire, have launched petitions targeting adult content creators and costume shops. The teenagers argue that depicting adult performers in recognisable school attire creates a dangerous overlap between adult fetishes and actual underage students.

I can’t stand it

For many of the young women leading the initiative, the push for legal regulation stems from distressing personal experiences while commuting to and from school in their everyday uniforms.

“I can’t stand it, not because it’s uncomfortable, but because of the possibilities of how it is perceived, especially a skirt,” 15-year-old Rose told reporters, explaining that fear of catcalling and unwanted male attention has led her to avoid wearing skirts altogether.

Her classmate, Aylin, echoed those sentiments, pointing out the psychological toll of feeling unsafe while simply trying to get an education:

“I keep reflecting on us feeling unsafe in our own uniform. To have the victims of sexualisation in front of you, pleading, that’s sad.”

The real-world impact of pop culture tropes

The “sexy schoolgirl” archetype has deep roots in Western popular culture, stretching from 20th-century comic strips to iconic pop music videos and mainstream media. However, student advocates stress that what is marketed as harmless roleplay in adult spaces has real-world consequences for underage girls.

Survey research from child protection advocacy groups shows that a staggering number of female students feel that being in uniform makes them an explicit target for street harassment. The campaigners argue that when pornography and costume retailers normalise school uniforms as inherently sexual garments, it blurs boundaries and encourages predatory behaviour toward minors.

Demanding legislative action

The petition demands a comprehensive ban on the sale, distribution, and production of adult content featuring school uniforms, as well as restrictions on costume and adult novelty shops selling replica school wear.

The students argue that simulating minor status through school attire in pornographic material should be treated with the same legal severity as other forms of child simulation.

With thousands of signatures backing their cause and growing political visibility across the UK, the student-led campaign continues to push lawmakers to enact strict regulatory standards that protect children from being sexualised by proxy.
