We lost a beloved nephew through an aggravated robbery-shooting incident in the US last month. Not even in my wildest dreams would I have ever imagined my family member being part of the statistics of deaths from the much talked about gun violence in the US. I hardly paid any attention to the raging gun-control debate by the US presidential candidates as I assumed it was an American problem with little consequence for us here in Kenya. Little did I know I would be mourning my nephew killed in a far-away land by a gun-trotting criminal even before the elections were held.
