“I still recall the intense pain I endured when I was accidentally pierced on my ankle by a Keiapple tree thorn in 1991, as I was heading home from school in Karia-ini, Nyeri County. Although my leg was numb with pain, I didn’t bother to inform my grandparents whom I lived with, neither did I pull out the thorn for fear of experiencing more pain.
