The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) recently conducted a major operation targeting a senior official within the Nairobi City County government, resulting in the recovery of over KSh 65.3 million in cash.

With a total of 65.3 Million discovered in batches: 51.3 million and USD 130,000 equating to 14 million discovered in cash.

On Thursday June 4 ,2026 , EACC detectives raided a prominent figures residence in Syokimau ,Machakos County. Investigation comes in after allegations of conflict of interest, abuse of office, bribery, and possession of unexplained assets. According to the commission, investigations suggest that the official received more than KSh 170 million through suspicious cash and M-Pesa deposits between the 2019/2020 and 2025/2026 financial years. The EACC alleges that he has accumulated wealth that is disproportionate to his known, legitimate sources of income. The commission has stated that the findings from this ongoing investigation will inform the next course of action, which could include criminal prosecution and formal asset recovery proceedings to forfeit any unlawfully acquired wealth.

The implications of this case extend well beyond one individual. Nairobi’s urban development sector has long been criticized for transparency issues, and this raid marks a major push by the EACC to hold senior administrative officials accountable for “unexplained assets.” As the investigation progresses, the EACC is moving on two fronts:

  • Criminal Prosecution: Building a case for abuse of office, bribery, and conflict of interest.
  • Asset Recovery: Initiating formal proceedings to ensure that any wealth found to be illicitly acquired is seized and forfeited to the state.

For many observers, this case serves as a test for accountability in Nairobi’s government. As the evidence mounts, the question remains: does this represent an isolated incident, or is it a symptom of a deeper rot in the machinery of city planning?
