Bad breath has adverse consequences on one’s confidence and social life. This condition of having bad breath is known as halitosis, it is caused by a number of issues such as lifestyle choices for example consumption of alcohol and smoking.

Other factors may include cavities, coated tongue due to gum disease and lack of saliva in the mouth.

However we can improve our oral hygiene by simple home remedies that can make a difference  for example:

Hydrate

Drinking enough water is one of the simplest ways  to curb bad breath.This is because when your mouth doesn’t have enough moisture to produce saliva, odor causing bacteria can develop.

Brush and Floss

According  to the American Dental Association brushing and flossing are the most important actions you can take towards avoiding bad breath.Neglecting to brush and floss daily causes food particles to linger in your mouth causing bad breath,so it is advisable to brush twice a day for at least two minutes.

Clean your tongue

When your tongue effectively you decrease halitosis compounds from forming.These compounds form on your tongue and in your mouth when bacteria and amino-acids combine emitting an unpleasant sulfur like smell, therefore cleaning your tongue regularly becomes important.

Eat healthy

Its common knowledge  that foods like raw onion or garlic can cause bad breath hence such food should be avoided because when ingested and excreted by the lungs  they cause halitosis. Avoiding high acidic foods ( like vinegar) or high – fructose foods (like sugar cereal) cuts down bad breath us well,instead choose whole grains like brown rice,dark green and  orange vegetables, a variety of fruits , proteins such us fish beans ,nut or seeds as this foods moderate your sugar intake and increase your saliva flow.
