Today’s ninth fastest man and the 2022 African Championship winner, met his wife, Laventa Amutavi during a local athletics game and they forged a friendship that would later blossom into love. Things, however, were not as easy as the story of their journey together is filled with sharp bends and speed bumps that must be approached with caution.
Omanyala, did not begin as an athlete and instead tried his hand at a number of sports activities until he literally fell on his feet. As he was growing his career and building a name for himself, he hit a snag. He walked into a doctor’s office complaining of back pain and a numb leg. When he walked out, he had inadvertently ended his career. Or so he thought. His career took a back seat for almost two years and it felt like it had come to an untimely end.
With no stream of income and Laventa heavy with child, the Omala Household was a boat in a raging storm and unsteady waters. But as they say, behind every successful man, is a woman, and so Laventa stepped out of the shadows and supported her man and their new born baby. She held the helm until it was time for Omanyala to return to the athletics scene. Since then, he has given it his best and has plans to keep at it until he bags the World Championship.
