IEBC Urges Eligible Kenyans to Register as Voter Registration Window Nears Closure

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that only 14 days remain before the conclusion of the ongoing Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration exercise, which is set to close on April 28, 2026.

The commission is urging all eligible Kenyans who are yet to register to take advantage of the remaining window, emphasizing the importance of civic participation ahead of future electoral processes.

According to IEBC, the current registration process is being conducted nationwide using “open kits,” a system that allows citizens to register from any registration centre across the country, regardless of their home county. This approach is designed to make voter registration more accessible, flexible, and efficient, particularly for Kenyans who may be living or working away from their counties of origin.

The commission has reiterated that voter registration is a key step in strengthening democratic participation, noting that every eligible citizen has a responsibility to ensure they are captured in the national voters’ roll.

With the deadline fast approaching, IEBC is encouraging young people, first-time voters, and those who have recently moved locations to prioritize registration before the exercise closes.

Once the registration period ends on April 28, no further registrations will be conducted until a new exercise is announced. The commission is expected to issue further guidance on verification and voter roll updates after the closure.

Kenyans are therefore being urged to act within the remaining days to ensure they are not locked out of future electoral participation.
