Nakuru butchery shut down for selling rotten meat to residents
Public health officers in Nakuru have shut down a renowned butchery located in the city centre after it emerged that the owners were selling vending rotten meat to its customers.
According to the senior assistant chief of Afraha sub-location where the butchery falls, county health officers visited the butchery after intelligence reports and found that the meat being sold had not been inspected by the county public health officers.

“We got some intelligence that this butchery has been selling rotten meat. We have found the meat and the owners will be prosecuted. To Nakuru residents, don’t just buy meat without looking at the place. The food can be poisonous and kill you. You see a butchery full of flies and still buy meat there,” Said Kitetu adding that some of the meat had maggots.
Following the incident, Kitetu encouraged residents to be vigilant while buying food in the two and to report any suspicious cases. In the recent past, Nakuru has been on the spot due to similar cases of businessmen selling bad food to consumers. Over 300kgs of rotten meat were confiscated during the incident.
