Imagining you are eating a certain food can make you want it less, according to a study by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University in the US. The researches divided 51 people into three groups. One group imagined popping 30 sweets into their mouths; another group imagined eating three then putting coins in a slot machine, and a third group imagined putting 30 coins in a slot machine. When a bowl of the sweets was then given to the group, those who’d thought about eating them ate the least.
