President Uhuru unveils Police Reforms

President Uhuru Kenyatta has revealed the new general duty police officers’ uniform at the Kenya School of Government. The move, he said, was to enhance better visibility for the officers.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has revealed the new general duty police officers’ uniform at the Kenya School of Government. The move, he said, was to enhance better visibility for the officers.

President Uhuru made it clear that the Kenya Police Service and the Administration Police will be combined and ordered to take a refresher course for new officers.

Other changes included the elimination of replicated duties, specific functions for the Deputy Inspector General who is set to focus on public safety and security.

Some posts such as  Administration Police Regional Commander, Kenya Police Regional Commander, DCI Regional Commander, District Administrator Police Commander, County Coordinating Commander, DCI County Commander, AP Sub-County Commander, DCI Sub-County Commander and AP Service Ward Commander were abolished.

junior and prison police officers would also no longer enjoy a free housing scheme under the government but will be given housing allowance meaning they’d be free to live among civilians, wherever they wish.

President Uhuru also renamed several police training institiutions including; General Service Training School to National Police College Embakasi B Campus, Senior Staff College to National Police Service Senior Staff College Loresho Campus, Administration Police Training College to National Police College Embakasi A Campus and Kenya Police Training College to National Police College Kiganjo Campus.
