State House Attack Suspect to Remain in Custody as Probe Into GSU Officer’s Killing Continues

A 55-year-old man accused of fatally attacking a General Service Unit (GSU) officer with an arrow near State House, Nairobi, will remain in police custody for 14 days as investigations into the shocking incident continue.

The suspect, identified as Kimunye Musyimi, a resident of Makueni County, appeared before court on Tuesday, where detectives sought additional time to complete their probe.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Musyimi travelled from Makueni to Nairobi on Sunday night before allegedly carrying out the attack the following morning.

According to police, the incident occurred on Monday, October 13, 2025, around 8:10 a.m. near State House Gate D along Dennis Pritt Road. The assailant, armed with a bow and arrows, confronted officers stationed at the gate and ignored repeated orders to surrender.

He then fired an arrow that struck Police Constable Ramadhan Mattanka in the ribs. The officer was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. His body was later moved to the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

When he appeared in court, Musyimi—who was reportedly limping and had to be assisted by police officers—requested permission to seek medical treatment while in custody.

In a statement, National Police Service (NPS) spokesperson Muchiri Njaga condemned the attack, describing it as a “heinous act,” while commending officers at the scene for their quick response that prevented further harm.

“The National Police Service condemns this heinous act and commends the officers for their swift response, which prevented further harm,” the statement read in part.

Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the suspect’s motive, with reports suggesting he claimed to have been “sent by the devil” during his arrest.
