Five students from Gititu secondary school in Murang’a county sustained critical injuries after a Neo Kenya Mpya bus they were travelling in rolled over on the Gakungu-Kirimiri road in Murang’a South Sub County.

The students were travelling home after closing school for the December holidays.

According to Murang’a South Sub-County police chief Alexander Shikondi, the driver’s miscalculations while negotiating a sharp corner caused  the bus to oveturn after losing control.

Most students escaped with minor injuries and were discharged from hospitals the same day. However, the five who were seriously injured were rushed and admitted to the nearby hospitals including Thika Level 5 and Murang’a Level 5.

The driver of the bus, however, died on the spot.
