It’s very easy to feel worn out in the workplace and this greatly affects our productivity and effectiveness. Beat the energy slump at work with these tips.

Take some time off. It is very easy to get caught up in work’s vicious cycle and more so in the corporate world. When you are constantly busy and don’t take the time to rest and even reflect; you will feel more tired and be less effective at your work.

Nothing re-energises you better than a break from the work environment. Make it a habit to take a few days off work to rest. If the nature of your work doesn’t allow you to go off work for days, you can still maximise on your tea or lunch breaks.

Use this time to take a walk away from the office, bask in the sun and if possible take a 10-minute power nap. You will notice that this will boost your energy levels for the rest of the day.

Control your stress levels. Nothing zaps one’s energy like stress. It leaves you mentally and physically exhausted and therefore not productive. No matter how bad a day you may seem to have, purpose to find something, even if it is just one positive thing, to be grateful for. Remember life is 10 per cent what happens and 90 per cent how you react to it.

Therefore, whereas you have no power over the stressful situations that life tends to throw your way, you have the power to control how you react towards it. It is important to understand that nothing lasts; so, breathe in and take your mind off whatever will cause you stress as this affects your productivity.

No matter the energy-boosting method you use, it is important to be deliberate in trying to re-energise yourself in order to be productive again and deliver the best at work.
