Twins born during India’s lockdown have been named Corona and Covid after the new coronvirus that is nearly bringing  the world to its knees.

The twins – a boy and a girl – were born on 27 March in the Indian State of Chhattisgarh.

“The delivery happened after facing several difficulties and therefore, my husband and I wanted to make the day memorable,” the twins’ 27-year-old mother told news agency Press Trust of India.

The elated mother further added that the hospital staff started calling her babies Corona and Covid and this helped them settle on the names.

According to the couple, the mother-to-be experienced labour pains on March 26 but the twins were eventually delivered by Caeserian section in early hours of March 27.

According to Al Jazeera, the couples is being pressed by relatives to change the names.
