Two suspects in police custody after attacking spouses in different incidents
A man is in police custody after attacking his wife and two stepchildren with a machete leaving them with serious injuries. The incident occurred on Sunday evening in Nyakoe village, Kisii county.
According to Kisii County Police Commander, Francis Kooli, the suspect Daniel Asiego attacked his family after a domestic dispute. The three victims, Ednah Kerubo and her two children, were taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment and observation.
Following the incident, angry Nyakoe villagers razed Asiago’s house and declared that they would never allow him back to the village.
”Members of the public decided to burn down Asiago’s home since they could not understand why he savagely attacked members of his family,” said Evans Oiko, a neighbour.
The suspect is being held at Nyatieko police station as investigations into the incident continue.
In an almost similar incident in Gichugu, Kirinyaga county, a middle aged man killed his wife by chopping off her hands before burning down the house she was in in what is likely a family dispute.
According to Gichugu Sub-County DCI boss Millicent Ochuka, the 45-year-old man identified as James Wachira Muchiri used a panga to cut off both hands of his 37-year old wife Charity Wangui, 37 before setting the house on fire.
The suspect is in police custody at Kianyaga police station while the deceased’s body was taken to Kerugoya hospital for post-mortem.
