Avoid traveling – Kagwe pleads as corona virus cases hit 50

  • PublishedMarch 30, 2020

The Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has requested Kenyans who stay in Nairobi to stay put and avoid traveling upcountry. This comes after the positive corona virus cases rose to 50. He noted that most of the country’s elderly reside in the rural areas, and going upcountry at a time that community spread is prevalent will be putting them at risk.

When it became apparent that a lock down was imminent in Italy’s cities, many city residents left the cities and fled to the countryside. That is partly to blame for their big infection and death rates.

He has also issued new directives on boda boda travel. Only one passenger will be allowed per trip, and both rider and passenger must wear masks.

According to the Ministry of Health Director General Patrick Amoth, Kenya could have 5,000 corona virus cases by mid-April, 10,000 by the end of April.

The government has now directed county governments to identify 20 schools in each county that could serve as isolation centers.
