KCSE 2024 results released: Over 1600 students score straight As
The 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results have been officially released today, marking a significant milestone in the country’s education sector.
While announcing the results at Mtihani House in Nairobi, the Education Cabinet Secretary, Julius Ogamba, confirmed that a total of 962,512 candidates sat for the exams, representing an increase from the 899,453 registered candidates in 2023.
Among the standout statistics, 1,693 candidates achieved the top grade of A (plain), an improvement from the year previous year 2023, indicating a positive trend in academic performance across the country. Additionally, 246,391 candidates attained C+ and above, the threshold required for university entry.
In a significant policy update, CS Ogamba highlighted that the KCSE exam will be phased out by 2027, with the final sitting scheduled for that year. This change is part of Kenya’s ongoing transition to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which will gradually redefine the education system.
The CS also emphasised the importance of maintaining the integrity of the examination process. This is due to the several exams that were cancelled due to exam irregularities.
“It is unfortunate that a few contracted professionals and teachers are, however, still insistent on ruining the future of our learners by subjecting them to examination malpractices,” Ogamba said, adding that; “the results of 2,829 candidates suspected to have been involved in exam malpractices have been withheld pending completion of investigations that should be completed within 30 days from today.”
In line with efforts to ease the financial burden on parents, the Ministry of Education has instructed school administrators not to impose additional levies outside the approved fees.
By using their index number and their KCSE registered names, individual candidates can now access results online through a link on the KNEC website https://resullts.knec.ac.ke.
Consequently, the CS advised on calling the KNEC toll-free number 0800724900 or 0800721410, in case of troubles accessing the results.
