The Dream List: 5 Things Your Dreams DON’T Mean
Dreams are a ticket to our emotions and minds. They help us process our daily lives. While there are countless explanations for what dreams mean, here’s the other side of what seeing people in your dreams doesn’t mean.
That you get back with your ex
Seeing an ex-lover or a former friend in a dream can be humbling. The process of moving forward starts once more, and this makes it feel as if the healing process is undone. If the wounds are still fresh, it’s like the end of the world. You start questioning whether reaching out will do any good.
To simply say no would be a simplification. Reaching out to your ex provides a space for old doubts to be confirmed and for harsh realities to be accepted. More importantly, it is crucial to realise that seeing an ex-lover or former friend doesn’t mean that you should reach out, much less get back together.
That they put roots in you
Erika Mukisa, a Ugandan author, former witch, and evangelist, emphasises that the spiritual side of life is overlooked, and just like the moon reflects sunlight, the physical world is only a mirror of the unseen.
‘’Life is spiritual’’ is one of Mukisa’s key principles.
When the same person or people repeatedly appear in your dreams, it is naturally unsettling, especially if you are neither close nor on speaking terms.
Before you jump to the conclusion that they used African spirituality to enact their will on you, consider that they simply act as symbols in your dreams. They’re nothing more than metaphors.
That you live in the past
We ponder taking countless roads and think of a dozen different ways things could go down. At our most vulnerable, when our minds aren’t burdened by the events of the day, we begin to deconstruct those possibilities.
Dreams show us what could have been, or more accurately, what we think could have been.
Seeing people repeatedly in our dreams, people who represent possibility or different choices, is our unconscious way of grieving the past. After all, all we have is the present.
That they’re thinking about you
Random debuts in your dreams don’t mean that people are secretly thinking about you. A guest appearance when you slumber does not guarantee that they will be talking about you behind your back. The important question is why are you thinking of them? More importantly, why do you dream of them?
That you’re possessed
All natural laws lose their power when it comes to dreams. Time doesn’t seem to work the same way it does in the real world. Phrases and statements don’t mean what they’re supposed to, and the dead aren’t truly gone.
Dreams about the deceased don’t mean that there are demonic forces at work. It is, rather, a testament that human beings are partly energy, and when we die, we leave traces.
We can never truly understand the dream world. It is a mysterious realm where the past, present, and future come together to teach us something meaningful; at other times, dreams are just messy stories with an inconsistent plot.
