DEVELOPING STORY: 10-YEAR- OLD BEATEN TO DEATH FOR FAILURE TO READ

A teacher and her classmates allegedly beat a Class three pupil to death, because she could not read.

10-year-old Joy Wangari was pronounced dead on Sunday 29th January at the Laikipia Hospital where a neighbour had rushed her, after she started vomiting blood. This was just days after Wangari complained of abdominal pains associated with the beating.

According to some students who reported the 26th January incident to their parents, the teacher who is also the school’s deputy headmaster, ordered fellow students to beat Wangari after she attempted to read again and failed.

Many Kenyans have been left shocked over the incident even as parents continued to pull their children from Mukandamia Solio Ranch Primary School where the incident took place.

So far the police have made no arrests, after the said teacher went into hiding. According to parents at the school, this is not the first time there have been complaints of the teacher’s severity when it comes to discipline.

Investigations are ongoing.
