Sam Kibiko has awed many by his act of selflessness after cycling for 500KM to raise funds for Starehe Boys Centre.

The ex-Starehe student was able to raise over Ksh 2 Million from well-wishers during the cycling. Starehe Boys Centre is reportedly grappling with financial crisis following the withdrawal of donors.

Sam cycled a total of 500km starting Monday, July 23, to Friday, July 27, from Nairobi-Nanyuki-Meru-Embu and then back to Nairobi.

His selfless act which has warmed the hearts of many Kenyan came from his desire to give back to the school.

“I was here for six years and I didn’t pay a single cent so I felt it’s good to pay back by cycling and raise funds. I want to appreciate all those who supported me with any amount during my journey,” Sam was quoted by Capital FM.

Sam went ahead to urge other former students to support the institution which is currently struggling due to insufficient funds.

“It’s upon us to support this school, we know the situation here and this is our home so let’s come out and give what we have. We owe this institution a lot,” Sam said.

Acting director of the institution, Josephat Mwaura, confirmed that the institution had a financial crisis after donors withdrew funding.

“The initiative he has carried out is very important but more importantly he has mobilized the country to support us and we want to really appreciate what Kenyans are doing for us and we commit to continue producing outstanding men out of Starehe,” said Mwaura.
