A high fibre breakfast can set you up for a low-calorie day as shown in research data from a US study. The study found eating insoluble fibre, found in oats, wholegrain cereals and most fruits and vegetables, at breakfast time cuts calorie intake for the rest of the day by 15.5 per cent. University of Toronto researchers also found the high-fibre breakfast controlled blood sugar surges from other foods eaten later in the morning, suggesting insoluble fibre may help control obesity and diabetes.
