Forget an apple a day – eating kiwifruit daily could help keep cancer at bay by repairing the body’s DNA, according to research from New Zealand – the land of kiwis. A study from AUT University in Auckland found that eating two to three kiwifruits a day, along with physical activity, led to a significant increase in the repair of damaged DNA. The group who were given a daily dose of kiwifruit (one for every 30kg of body weight) showed an improved ability to repair peroxide-damaged DNA. Researchers are of the opinion that it could be the fruit’s antioxidant content that offers the protective effect.
