If you love hearing your favourite band live or go to noisy discos, take care as you could be bringing yourself closer to deafness. Research by the Royal National Institute for the Deaf in the UK shows that more than half of 16 to 30-year-olds are damaging their ears from loud music in night clubs, discos, live performances and earphones. Whether it’s a gig or your local bar, if you can’t talk to someone’s two metres away without shouting, the music level is dangerously high. Next time you hit the dance floor, don’t get too close to the speakers, and take regular breaks from the room with music. Also avoid sitting close to the speakers and if you play loud music on your earphones, don’t keep them on for long hours.
