“Pursuant to Laikipia University Charter, 2013 Section III, (21) (4) (k) on the conferment of Honorary Degrees and upon recommendation of the University Senate and approval thereof by the Laikipia University Council, the University has the pleasure to present Mr. Eliud Kipchoge to Kenyans and the international community for the award of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa)” The advert read.

Honoris Causa is a degree given to a person as a sign of honour and respect, without them having to take an exam.

During this year’s Mashujaa Celebrations, the world marathon record holder and Olympic champion was awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) by President Uhuru Kenyatta. The EGH is the highest honour for a civilian.
