Life and death walk together. But death is dreaded by the living even though they know they cannot escape it. It devastates those left behind. It puts into mourning those whose lives were touched by the departed one. Last month was variously referred in the media as the ‘black month’. And for a good reason. Amidst the chilly weather, the month of July marked the deaths of famous sons of Kenya – Senator GG Kariuki, Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, former powerful minister Nicholas Biwott and Ambassador Bethuel Kiplagat. Kenya’s political history books would be incomplete without a mention of the four – all held key and influential positions in the government at some point in their lives. They contributed to the country in different ways. May God rest their souls in eternal peace.
